Painting of Reardon Smith's ship Welsh City and tug Cardiff Rose

A somewhat unrealistic Reardon Smith ship "Welsh City" is escorted into Cardiff Bay by the Cardiff based tug "Cardiff Rose".

The foreground of the painting shows a very modern looking Cardiff while, in the background, the cranes of Penarth Dock can be seen unloading a ship.

This is a common theme of my paintings and it represents the old and the new Cardiff - and past and present generations of Cardiffians - existing at the same time.

The officers and crew of the long broken up "Welsh City" helped forge the Cardiff we know today, and so are still, in a way, with us.
