Roath Spur?

Painting by Stephen Brinkworth

Painting of Roath Spur, Cardiff East Dock Branch

Roath Spur? I think this was called the Cardiff East Dock Branch, originally built by the Rhymney Railway. A battery operated model loco takes a mixed goods train past East Moors Steelworks to Cardiff docks. It’s going to pick up the cargo from my dad’s ship.

I know, Cardiff was primarily a coal exporting port and the wagons the loco is hauling look suspiciously empty. Actually, a loco on that part of the spur would be coming away from the docks and the steelworks would not be behind the train but behind the viewer.

This is not something that would have concerned me doing my art in Radnor Road Junior School and it’s not something I feel need concern me now.
