Pacific Northwest Arrives in Cardiff?

Painting by Stephen Brinkworth

50 x 40cm
£550

Painting of my Dad's ship SS Pacific Northwest

A tug pulls the Furness Withy ship ‘SS Pacific Northwest’ into a very exotic looking Cardiff Bay. Dad’s ship never came to Cardiff so that imaginary event is depicted with improbable colours.

A stylised Penarth Head and Cardiff Bay Barrage mix the nineteen sixties with the present. The ship represents Dad (or Mum) coming home from work at the end of the day as well as, in my Dad’s case, a voyage of several months. The turquoise sea looks more Mediterranean than South Wales but it complements the pink evening sky with its ‘crayon scribble’ clouds as a child’s present for Daddy.
