Painting of the Bitter End, Kirkgate, Cockermouth
On holiday in the Lake District in the summer of 2014 I took a photograph of this view of Kirkgate, Cockermouth before going for a pint in the excellent Bitter End pub.
The Bitter Beck disappears underground here so it’s the "Bitter End".
I thought it would make a nice painting and I wanted to do a "straight" painting for a change. This is pretty much an accurate representation of the scene but is still in my style and is painted in gouache and crayon.
